Collagen coffee recipe for digestion

| SEP 26, 2024

I’ve suffered with constipation all my life and my Nutritional Therapist Kate Fisk taught me that if we don’t poo, we don’t clear stuff out. Obvious, I know. But I didn’t know that we get rid of excess hormones, like estrogen, through our poo.

Estrogen that doesn’t get cleared out recirculates and leads to an excess which can make things like PMS much worse. The one thing that has sorted out my bowels is a ‘kinda keto’ coffee which Kate adapted from Patrick Holford. I drink this every morning now as my breakfast and I poo every day (soz for the TMI!)

Ingredients:

Method:

Heat up a good glug of almond milk (or any kind) with 2 tablespoons (measuring spoon, not serving spoon) of ground flaxseed, a tablespoon of almond butter and half a teaspoon of cinnamon.

As an optional extra, you can also add a spoonful of Skinful Marine Collagen Powder.

Blitz with hot coffee in a food processor and that’s it. It keeps me going until lunch and it’s delicious (once you get used to the bits in it!). Enjoy!

Additional info about the ingredients and which brands I use:

Flaxseed: This is the key ingredient! It cured my constipation, and it also has so many other health benefits. If you don’t usually have flaxseed, take it slowly at the beginning. Maybe start with half a tablespoon and build yourself up gradually. I grind my own flaxseed because it’s just fresher that way, and sometimes the shop-bought pre-ground ones can taste a bit funky. I love The Little Seed Co for my flaxseeds, and I grind them in my Thermamix.

Cinnamon: It makes it taste yummy and is a really good antioxidant. I use Sevenhills Wholefoods for my cinnamon, and it’s much cheaper than buying it in those silly little glass bottles from the supermarket.

Almond butter: It has amazing health benefits, especially for women. It makes it really creamy and adds protein, fibre, vitamin E and makes it delicious! I love Pip & Nut’s almond butter - they’re a fellow Buy Women Built brand.

Skinful pure: I often get asked how much I should use. I use a tablespoon, which is about 3 teaspoons or 5 grams. You can use 10 grams. A lot of other brands say to use 10g, but honestly, I think it’s just a ploy to get people to use more so they buy more. So try 5g, and you can always build up to 10g. Skinful is also an excellent source of protein, and of course, all the benefits of collagen.

We bare all. So you can relax.
