Coconut oil is all the rage right now. And it’s not without good reason. From satisfying our tummies to nourishing our hair and whitening our teeth, this wonder oil has it all covered. This month Frances Phillips shares with us her top 5 beauty uses for coconut oil.
As a face cleanser & moisturiser
I love to use a little coconut oil to remove my make-up (trust me – it does work. It even removes eye make-up). Rub a small amount between your palms to liquefy then massage into your skin. Spritz some rose water on a cotton pad and use to remove the coconut oil. The residual oil left on the skin serves as a moisturiser.
As a hair mask
Soften a little bit between your palms before applying to the lengths and ends of your hair before bed. Shampoo out in the morning (you may need two shampoos) and then condition as normal.
As a mouthwash
Oil pulling has become more mainstream lately. If you can’t stomach the neat stuff, there are brands available that do flavoured sachets. Use for 15 minutes before brushing your teeth. I like to use it whilst I’m in the shower to save on time.
As a lip balm
You only need a tiny amount to coat the lips. I like to put some in a little travel container and keep it in my bag.
As a body scrub
Mix a tablespoon of coconut oil with ground coffee (don’t worry if it’s solid, it will melt when applied to the skin). Massage into damp skin in the shower. Rinse and cleanse the skin.
